Just about all files offered for download from any web site will be provided in a compressed format. The most commpn compressed format is what is known as a ZIP file. To be able to actually use the supplied files you need a program that can unzip the file for you so as to gain access to the original file.
Some operating systems have a built in facility for being able to decompress zip files. There are also a number of third party products that are available to buy (or in some cases are free downloads if you know where to look for them) that can also be used to decompress zip files for you. These programs can also often be used to create your own zip files as well.
One such free program that can be used to decompress the zip files that are offered in this member's area and most other download sites on the web is a program called ViralZip. This program doesn't include many of the fancy options included in the programs that you can buy but it does have one advantage over other zip programs where you are offering zip files of your own for download because this particular zip program comes with the ability for you to update the help menu link and also an ad link at the bottom of the window to point to two web pages of your own choice (for example I have set the Help menu option in te copy you can doweload from here to point to this page).
The first thing that you need to do if you want to use this program is to download the package.
This is a self extracting executable file and so you will not need a separate program to be avle to extract the files.
Once you have the program on your computer you will be able to use it to extract the contents from any of the zip files you download from the web.
Let's take a look at what options are available in the program and what they do. To start with here is what the program itself looks like when you first run it. Rather plain looking isn't it.
All of the power of this program is in the menus. The File menu provides the options to create a New zip file, Open an existing zip file, as well as the usual Exit option to close the program. When you have an actual zip file open within the program a list of all the files contained within that zip file will appear in the main part of the window.
The actions that the program performs will depend on which entries within the main window you have selected. You can select individual files by clicking on them, multiple files by CTRL clicking on them and blocks of files by SHIFT clicking. The Select menu contains options that allow you to Select All files and to Invert Selection (which means all selected files become unselected and all unselected files are selected instead).
The Action menu is where the main functionality of this program can be found. There are options that allow you to Add Files and Add Folders when you are creating your own zip files. The main option you need to use for zip files you have received from elsewhere is Extract. You can also Delete any content that you no longer want to have in the zipt file.
The final few options in the Action menu may be of particular interest if you are creating a zip file as they allow you to Set Password so that the resultant zip file can only be extracted by someone who knows that password as well as Modify File Comment and Modify Zip Comment which allow you to attach comments to the individial files within the zip file you are creating and also the zip file itself.
The final menu is the Help menu which contains one link. This link along with the Ad link at the bottom of the window can be customised using the branding tool that is supplied with the program.
